Turriff is OHSAS 18001 accredited. OHSAS 18001 is an occupational health and safety management system specification and is compatible with ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental).

Putting Policy into Practice.

Developing the policies and procedures to achieve OHSAS 18001 accreditation is a detailed, exacting but rewarding process. The next - and far harder step - is to implement these policies and procedures. Turriff does this in a number of highly visible ways;

  • Training - In 2006, Turriff College - the company's collective training resource - delivered over 5,000 technical training days to employees by means of internal and external training providers.
  • Safety awareness presentations on site by project managers, or on smaller sites by the team leader.

Near Miss & Hazard Report Cards

Turriff are committed to identify all Near Miss & Hazards, all staff are encouraged to complete a card for every Near Miss & Hazard. For every card we receive £1 will go to charity.

Turriff Innovations

The Turriff Innovations scheme seeks to highlight best practice in key areas of Turriff's operations.

Initiatives generated under the scheme are communicated to the workforce via Turriff's monthly newsletter and via posters located across the company's premises. Recent Turriff Innovations initiatives have included:

Red Hat

All new employees wear red hard hats on site so that existing employees can provide support and assistance. It's a simple but highly effective idea which reinforces Turriff's site safety culture.

Aim for Zero!

Hitting and damaging existing utility pipes and cables whilst excavating is highly dangerous, disruptive for both site operatives and the general public, and expensive to rectify. 'Aim for Zero' has been designed to raise awareness of the implications of utility strikes and lists straightforward actions any operative can take to reduce the risk of a strike taking place.
